August 8, 2005 Q: What do you know about the new Mirage Omnisat speakers? Joe B. A: Mirage's Omnisat line was introduced in 2002 and has recently been upgraded to v2 status. It now includes a new version of the original Omnisat satellite speaker ($250 per pair) along with the floorstanding Omnisat v2 FS ($500 per pair) and Omnisat v2 CC center-channel speaker ($400 each). The Omnisat v2 has a 4 1/2" Titanium Deposit Hybrid woofer and a 1" PTH tweeter mounted in Mirage's Omniguide array. It comes in four different colors (shown right). Doug Schneider recently reviewed the Omnisat v2 FS, which uses three 4 1/2" PTH woofers, four passive radiators, and a 1" PTH tweeter. The Omnisat CC uses a pair of 4 1/2" PTH woofers, a 3" PTH midrange, and a 1" PTH tweeter. To say the least, these speakers, with their PTH drivers, should be perfectly matched for home-theater use. I heard the original Omnisat a while back and thought they sounded amazing given their small size and price. ...Marc Mickelson
