 Low-Cost DVD Player Supports DivX
Playback
January 3, 2005
Norcent, a supplier of LCD and
plasma TVs, full home-theater systems, DVD players, and digital cameras, will introduce
its DP-220 DVD player with built-in DivX playback technology at CES 2005. The DP-220 plays
near-DVD quality DivX content downloaded from the Internet, and features progressive-scan
playback. With DivX video technology, users can compress a VHS tape down to one-hundredth
of its original size, or a DVD to one-tenth of its size and fit the entire contents on a
regular data CD. There are reportedly "hundreds of thousands of DivX movies
now
available for downloading on the Internet."
The DP-220 has a slim chassis and comes with a
full-function remote control and built-in Dolby Digital Surround processing. There are
eight-step fast or slow-motion functions and support of all types of media: DVD,
DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW, CD, CD-R/-RW, MP3-CD, MPEG-4, and Picture-CD.
Norcent's DP-220 will be available in February 2005 for
$59.99.
