New High-End Turntable from Thorens

February 7, 2005

The chassis of the Thorens TD 2030A turntable ($3299) is made from a bonded sandwich of polished Acryl, which is said to have "superb anti-resonant characteristics." The TD 2030A's 1.4"-thick platter is a machined, polished alloy disk that weighs over 13 pounds and has a vibration-damping coating underneath. The external belt-drive motor is enclosed in its own housing and isolated from the turntable's chassis for reduced noise. The newly developed silent-run bearing has a ceramic sleeve that is said to reduce substantially friction and noise compared with a typical bronze sleeve. The bearing requires no maintenance and runs dry its entire functional life. A Thorens TP300 tonearm is included. The TD 2030A measures 16 1/2"W x 13D x 6 1/2"H weighs 34 pounds.

Thorens turntables are distributed in the US by Trian Corporation.
