DVD Goes Wireless

February 15, 2005

The Vault 9200 DVD player ($170) is billed as "the world's first 2.4GHz wireless DVD transceiver." It transmits sound and video to equipped TVs without wires and comes with a radio-frequency remote control, so users can control the 9200 from different rooms, which would not be possible with a standard infrared remote. The player's transmission distance is stated as 300 feet. The 9200 is compatible with DVD, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD, HDCD, CD+G, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD, MP3, WMA and Kodak Picture CD formats and has progressive-scan video output with video resolution of 500 lines. The player uses 24-bit/96kHz audio DACs and a 10-bit video DAC. Dolby Digital decoding is standard.
