Cary Audio CD Player Offers Tremendous Flexibility

February 18, 2005

Cary Audio's new 303/300 CD player ($4000) has both solid-state and tubed output stages that users can switch between as they desire. Both output stages are adjustable, so the 303/300 can be used without a preamp. The player's "specially selected" CD- ROM drive allows multiple laser passes to be made, which is said to yield a "one-hundredfold" improvement in player's error-correction capabilities. Three data buffers address jitter, and the 303/300's DSP algorithm supports selectable upsampling to 96, 192, 384, 512 or 768kHz. The 303/300 is fully balanced, has five separate power supplies, and uses multi-layer PCBs populated with audiophile-grade parts. Says Cary Audio, "We consider the CD 303/300 a statement piece, as it incorporates Cary Audio’s cumulative experience creating analog, digital and hybrid products that are among the most naturally musical-sounding available."
